About Us

Gwynedd and Conwy boast a wealth of heritage assets — from World Heritage castles, slate quarries and Celtic shrines to inspirational and spiritual landscapes and a vibrant, living Welsh language.

Gwynedd and Conwy Councils, Snowdonia National Park Authority and partners developed a vision to maximise the economic and cultural value of this heritage by improving the historical and cultural experience of both visitors and residents alike. In 2011 they were successful in applying for £1.7m from Cadw’s £19m Heritage Tourism Project, part-funded through the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.

Ein Treftadaeth (Our Heritage) was born.

The project combined specific site investments with a central interpretation platform to bind it all together – and this is where the website plays a central role.

This website is what binds the project together, its backbone if you like. You can freely browse the wealth of heritage sites the area has to offer, from Origins and Pre-History, Roman Occupation, Inspirational Landscapes, Edwardian Castles, Sacred Places or Industrial Nation.

This website contains information on every significant heritage site in the area. It also includes audio trails and itineraries for you to download and explore. It can be accessed from a wide variety of devices and is also the primary content generator for all the digital screens at local site exhibitions. As part of an integrated approach, the project runs alongside another Heritage Tourism project called “Princes of Gwynedd” and this theme is also featured on the Our Heritage website.

The project, made possible by the commitment and support of its many partners, has been truly ground-breaking in its integrated approach to heritage tourism. Its legacy is an accessible and long-lasting resource for future generations of visitors and locals and an established working relationship between the key local partners to ensure the integrated management of our heritage for generations to come.
