An invaluable centre that celebrates the cultural heritage of Wales
This community enterprise was established through the support of the Welsh Assembly in 2006. It is based in Clynnog Fawr’s old School House (named after the poet and teacher Eben Fardd). The centre’s aim is to promote Welsh language and culture, and to encourage creative endeavour in the native language. In particular, the rich heritage of Gwynedd and Snowdonia is celebrated through a variety of activities and publications.
The centre publishes a monthly magazine, Utgorn Cymru (Welsh Trumpet). Available in a variety of formats, the magazine focuses on issues important to Welsh cultural studies. Also published here is material as diverse as local histories, novels and greetings cards, all of which are written in Welsh.
Though the centre is geared largely toward school parties, everybody is welcome to attend the various educational talks and lectures. These are regularly organised, along with numerous exhibitions, film showings and cultural events. A key aim of the organisation is to promote the use of the Welsh language, so exhibitions and events are solely in Welsh.
